Current Programs
Project HERO Program
The HERO Program is available for victims of Hurricanes Rita, Wilma and Katrina due to a grant provided to THAW by the DTE Energy Foundation. No employee of DTE Energy or THAW is eligible to receive help from this program, nor any person not a victim of one of the fore mentioned hurricanes.
The guidelines for the Project HERO Program are as follows:
- Must have been displaced by Gulf coast hurricanes
- Must present FEMA number provided for Katrina recipients; bring proof of eligibility at the time of appointment, and must sign THAW voucher.
- Must have a Michigan Department of Human Services (formerly FIA) caseworker if applicable
- Utility bill must be a residential account in the name of applicant
- Meet poverty level of 200% (exception up to 250%)
- No co-payment is required
- Maximum amount is $500; exception up to $1,000 per utility type
- Applicant can only apply once per THAW season and is not eligible for other THAW Programs
- Payment must ensure service for 30 days
- Customer will be placed on a budget program. If customer can not meet budget requirements, they must contact DTE Case Management at 1-800-545-8046
- Applicants must reside in area served by THAW
- THAW will pay vendor directly on behalf of customer
- Customer may be referred to attend an energy education program.
